ABOVE “I went out at the break of dawn, photographing fields and barns and observing my subjects against the rising sun,” artist Ron Thomson says. But with most cotton fields already harvested, the desired subject for his “Alabama Snow” oil painting was elusive. Finally, he found and photographed a cotton planting in front of the old Point Clear polo fields at sunset. “So I set this scene against photos of barns and farmhouses I shot on one of my morning excursions, and the painting came together like magic.”
